3 Simple Steps to Building Your First Mobile App

Creating your first mobile app can be a scary endeavor. Fortunately, the market is wide open and there is room for just about anyone.

Since nearly everyone carries a smartphone with them at all times, it’s a very good market to be a part of, if you can become successful in it. Apps are always in high demand, and people want better, faster, simpler tools.

When it comes to building apps, most aspiring entrepreneurs bog themselves down with unnecessary planning and thinking they need more than they have to start.

It doesn’t have to be that hard. If you focus on just a few core activities and functions, you can actually whip together an app rather quickly.

Below are 3 simple steps to building your first mobile app.

  1. Think of an Idea

Before you break out the app development tools and get into coding, you need to have an idea to work with.

If you already have one, awesome. Go ahead and move on down to the next step. For those of you that don’t, it’s kind of an essential part of the app development process.

To come up with some ideas, take a look at your own life. What kind of problems do you face on an everyday basis that a simple app might be able to solve?

Usually, the best ideas come from solutions to your own problems. But, if that doesn’t work, ask a couple friends or family members.

Exhaustively list out all problems you can come up with. Then start brainstorming app ideas to fix them.

  1. Test the Waters

Everyone thinks you need all kinds of money to construct an awesome app; however, this is a pretty silly way to approach it.

Why invest thousands of dollars when you’re not even sure anyone wants to use it?

A very basic way to test your idea is to Google and find other ideas similar to it. How well did those apps perform? If they did well, what can you improve on their already existing design?

Another way is to physically talk to people about your app. Tell them what you’ve got in the works, then ask them if they would buy it.

If the say yes, suggest that they give you the money now and that you’ll deliver the app at a later time.

You’ll know you have a good idea if you get a few paying customers. At that point, go ahead and move on to the next step.

  1. Create the First Version

With your idea fully formed and validated, now it’s time to start building the app.

You don’t need anything ridiculously fancy. You just need an app that serves the purpose you advertised.

All of the extra design work and added features can be included later, once you build a user-base and people give you feedback.

If you’re programming-savvy, you can code the app yourself. If not, hire a freelancer or friend to do it for you.

Getting Started with Your App

Mobile apps are everywhere and more are popping up each day. If you want to have a shot at breaking into the app market, follow the steps above and make sure to create a totally awesome app. Don’t get caught up in the details and instead just focus on functionality and getting started.
